WHO AM I?
I am a clinical psychologist working in private practice in Somerset West specialising in psychodynamic couple and individual psychotherapy. I hold a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Stellenbosch University and I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. I am also currently involved part time at Stellenbosch University teaching ethical decision-making and supervising psychodynamic therapy and case presentations with the clinical psychology Masters students. I am a founding member of the Association of Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists and a former chairperson. A further aspect of my interest in couple dynamics is as an accredited FAMAC mediator and facilitator involving contact and care disputes.
WHAT I OFFER
COUPLE THERAPY
Psychoanalytically informed couple therapy assists clients to understand the impasses they find themselves in and either to find a way to reconnect or to go through the painful task of separation. Insight and understanding of the relationship issues (unconscious and conscious) are crucial for these processes.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Individual psychoanalytic therapy is a way to explore the internal world. It provides insights and understanding of conscious and unconscious choices one has made on the journey of life and provides a process through which to resolve symptoms, life's dilemmas and make life choices going forward.
PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION
I offer supervision to qualified therapists working in private practice, hospital and community settings.
MEDIATION
I am a qualified mediator registered with FAMAC since 2009. My area of expertise is working with couples to resolve parenting issues pre, during and post divorce. The goal of mediation is to reduce conflictual issues in the best interests of the children.
FACILITATION
I qualified as a facilitator with FAMAC in 2010. Facilitation is often a court ordered process in which a facilitator is appointed in the consent papers of a divorce agreement to assist couples in resolving parenting disputes.
POST-GRADUATE LECTURER
Since 2011 I have been teaching and supervising at Stellenbosch University in the Masters Clinical Psychology programme. I supervise therapy cases, teach the ethical decision-making module and oversee the case presentations.
